Desh Parthab looks at some of the players and stats to keep an eye on this weekend in the DStv Premiership. Featured this week are Keagan Dolly who has a point to prove against his former employers, Royal AM’s Kiwi forward Andre de Jong, and more!
The DStv Premiership action is coming thick and fast. The midweek round of fixtures gave us much to ponder. Cape Town City succumbed to Swallows, making it two losses in two league outings.
Kaizer Chiefs put three past Maritzburg United without reply following their tame opening-day loss against Royal AM.
The shock result of the round, however, came on Wednesday evening when TS Galaxy dispatched reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0. The Yellow Army attempted 20 shots in that one, without finding the back of the net.
Royal AM currently occupies the top spot following two wins in two. Thwihli Thwahla netted three times against Chippa United as Dan Malesela got one over his former employers.
With that being said, here are a few points to consider ahead of this round of fixtures.
Magoola key to Richards Bay’s survival hopes
Salim Jamal Magoola has been impressive in the nets for topflight newcomers Richards Bay. The KZN club currently occupies the second spot on the log ahead of this round of fixtures and Magoola has had a part to play in that. The goalkeeper has recorded back-to-back clean sheets and will be looking to make it 3 on the trot when his club comes up against Sekhukhune United.
City keen to get the most out of Mayo
Khanyisa Mayo delivered a goal and an assist last time out. The Cape Town City forward will be crucial as his side look to put their first points on the board. Mayo has bagged five league goals in 2022 and could break into double digits before the turn of the year. The Citizens currently sit 15th on the log which will give them all the motivation they need to take the three points against AmaZulu.
Dolly sets sights on former employers
Keagan Dolly (8) top scored for Kaizer Chiefs on the DStv Premiership scoring charts. The forward returns to his former club Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend. The former Masandawana attacker will be looking to rub some salt in the wounds of The Yellow Army, following their shock defeat to TS Galaxy. Dolly opened his account last time out and will look to add to his tally in this one.
De Jong settling well at Royal AM
Andre de Jong looks to have settled in well at Royal AM. The Kiwi forward bagged a brace last time out to fire his side to the summit of the DStv Premiership log. The summer signing failed to find the back of the net last season for AmaZulu but did deliver three assists across his 19 league appearances for Usuthu. The forward now sets his sights on a Stellenbosch side that has recorded back-to-back draws at the start of the season.
