SPHELELE MKHULISE: “SUNDOWNS EXPECTING A DIFFICULT GAME AGAINST ROYAL AM”

In a bid to finish the season without a league loss, Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to pull a double over Royal AM when they battle it out at Harry Gwala Stadium this evening.

Just four days ago, Amasandawana managed to pull a 1-0 victory over Thwihli Thwahla when they welcomed them at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday in a match where Sundowns’ Midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise’s outstanding performance was rewarded with the man of the match award. Peter Shalulile’s late strike proved to be enough for the home side to bag all three points.

“I am confident to play against Royal AM again. I was happy with my performance on Saturday and I know I can still improve. But I think the whole team is ready to face Royal AM again.” Said Mkhulise reflecting on his performance in their last game against the Kwazulu-Natal side.

Sundowns recently made history by clinching their seventh consecutive league title and are currently aiming to become the first team to finish without a loss in the PSL era. With just four games left before the season ends, they have played 50 league matches without tasting defeat.

Speaking prior to the upcoming match, Sphelele explained that they are not expecting an easy match as the home side will be aiming to avoid humiliation in front of their home fans and is also desperate for points with relegation looming. They are currently 14th on the log separated by two points with 15th-place Richards Bay FC.

“It will be a difficult game because they will want to come at us since they are number 14 on the log and are playing at home. They will want three points, which we also want because we have our objective as a team (finishing the season without a loss).”

John Maduka’s men are currently experiencing a poor run of form which has seen them losing their last four matches conceding seven goals and not scoring a single goal in the process. They face the daunting task of turning the tide at the expense of the reigning champs.
