South African PSL Preview

The PSL has postponed four of this weekend’s scheduled ABSA Premiership fixtures. The move has been necessitated by the late arrival of Bafana Bafana who are now scheduled to arrive on Saturday morning from their trip to Central America. That leaves us with just two league matches this weekend with Lamontville Golden Arrows vs Bloemfontein Celtic at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday going ahead as planned, whilst a decision on the Mamelodi Sundowns vs Polokwane City has not yet been postponed and should take place.

Saturday 17th September

Golden Arrows 31/20 | Draw 22/10 | Bloem Celtic 31/20

It’s back to Chatsworth Stadium for Golden Arrows as they play host to a strong Bloemfontein Celtic outfit. Abafana Bes’thende have won three of their four home matches, losing only to table-toppers Mpumalanga Black Aces but beating Mamelodi Sundowns, University of Pretoria as well as Ajax Cape Town last time out in a Telkom Knockout encounter. After only gaining a point from their first two league matches, Celtic have gone on to win four matches in a row. They are coming off a disappointing penalty shootout loss at home to Black Aces and will be eager for another three points which will see them momentarily take top spot. However, Arrows are a formidable force and I see the draw as the most likely outcome.

Sunday 18th September

Sundowns 7/20 | Draw 32/10 | Polokwane 8/1

Its David vs Goliath on Sunday as Mamelodi Sundowns host Polokwane City at Lucas Moripe Stadium. After starting the season sluggishly, Sundowns are looking a team to fear following three good wins on the trot. The Brazilians have won both their home clashes so far, beating top opposition in Wits (4-2) and Ajax Cape Town (3-2). They are also coming off a straight forward 2-0 home win against Chippa United in the Telkom Knockout first round. Polokwane lie in 12th position due to a horrific away record that has seen them lose all three of their travels. Rise and Shine are also coming off a 2-1 home loss in the Telkom Knockout, where they played against a 10-man SuperSport United for 55 minutes. Downs demolished Polokwane in their league meetings last season, winning 5-0 in this fixture and 3-0 in Limpopo.Sundowns are this weekend’s banker bet.
