South Africa vs Korea Republic: Predicted Bafana Bafana XI against the Taeguk Warriors – Who replaces Teboho Mokoena?

The all-important clash is scheduled to take place at the Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe on Thursday morning, with kick-off slated for 03:00 AM.

Bafana Bafana enter the encounter knowing that anything less than a win will end their hopes of reaching the knockout stages. Following a 2-0 loss to Mexico and a 1-1 draw with Czechia, Hugo Broos’ side find themselves under significant pressure heading into their third group match.

Despite showing flashes of promise against Czechia, Bafana once again struggled to create enough clear-cut opportunities in the final third. Questions continue to be asked about Broos’ team selection, particularly regarding the use of exciting youngster Relebohile Mofokeng.

The Orlando Pirates star has been one of South Africa’s brightest talents over the past two seasons and many supporters believe he deserves a starting role against Korea Republic. His creativity, direct running and ability to unlock compact defences could provide Bafana with the attacking spark they have been lacking.

In attack, Evidence Makgopa is expected to start ahead of Lyle Foster and Iqraam Rayners as the team’s main striker. The Orlando Pirates forward looks like Bafana’s biggest goal threat and will be eager to open his World Cup account.

Out wide, Oswin Appollis is likely to continue on the left flank after another energetic display, while Thapelo Maseko could be preferred on the opposite wing to provide additional pace and defensive work rate against a technically gifted Korean side.

In midfield, the absence of Teboho Mokoena will be visible as he serves a one match suspension. He is expected to be replaced by the returning Sphephelo Sithole who could partner Jayden Adams.

Defensively, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Ime Okon are tipped to continue in central defence, with Khuliso Mudau and Aubrey Modiba providing width from the full-back positions.

Korea Republic possess plenty of attacking quality and international experience, meaning concentration and defensive discipline will be essential if Bafana are to secure a result.
