Recent CAF A graduate Gavin Hunt wants to see more coaches complete their badges.
The SuperSport United boss is one of the most decorated coaches in South Africa.
Hunt has four league titles, one MTN8, one Nedbank Cup and a Telkom Knockout to his name.
He has been coaching for over 20 years and this season he led Matsatsantsa to a seventh-placed DStv Premiership finish.
But with the South African Football Association implementing a new rule that states all coaches need the required permit to sit on the bench during matches from next season, Hunt was forced to attend the Confederation of African Football course.
And now having gone through the experience of the A License and having passed with flying colours, the former Hellenic and Bidvest Wits coach has encouraged others to obtain their licenses as well.
He said: “In SA, we need to have these [coaching courses] more because I think there’s a huge lack of knowledge in SA and people might not think that [there’s indeed a huge lack of knowledge among coaches]. People think they know football. I think the more and more the courses can be done, the better for SA football in the long run.”
Hunt explained that he didn’t have any preconceived ideas about the course before he started.
“I came with an open mind which you have to do in this type of thing,” Hunt added.
“I mean, there were a lot of debates, a lot of talks. We started in December last year and the journey was interesting. There were a lot of discussions about football, terminology changes and all these type of things, technology also changes a lot in football.”
