Slovakia vs Spain Preview

Spain need maximum points to qualify for the knockout stages

We are into the third and final round of the group stages and one of the tournament favorites are yet to win a match and have only scored one goal. Failure to win here will see Spain crash out of the Euro 2020 finals.

Slovakia

Slovakia started the tournament in fine style, beating Poland by an odd goal. They were however unfortunate to concede a late penalty against Sweden which cost them the match.

The Slovakians are aware that a point here will see them through to the next round and after seeing Spain’s previous fixtures they will be confident in getting a point at the least.

It is no secret that Spain don’t have a dangerous forward or a good strike force so parking the bus and defending the whole game is a proven option against this team and I’m expecting Slovakia to apply those tactics.

Spain

The biggest question being asked around the world is ‘is this the worst Spanish National team since 2010?’ and the answer for me is simple and straight forward. I think this is the worst Spain team ever and I expected them to be where they are now.

Luis Enrique’s men have failed to make use of playing at home in this tournament and they find themselves in deep trouble. Failure to win here would mean elimination and that would probably cost Enrique his job.

The Spanish gaffer has only himself to blame for not playing the deserving players and still sticks to players like Alvaro Morata who brings nothing to the table.

It’s now do or die for Spain, and if they can get their tactics right and play the right players they will win this match easy.

Prediction: Draw (52/10)

Spain have been very poor in this year’s edition of the EUROs, and I do not have any confidence in them. For me, I think Slovakia’s hardest game in the group was the match against Sweden. On paper this is a difficult fixture but based on current form Slovakia should get a point here.
