Simon van Duivenbooden says he’s excited to have been called up by Bafana Bafana for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The 22-year-old Netherlands born striker piqued the interest of Bafana bosses since his promotion to the Vitesse first team in recent seasons.
He was invited to link up with the South Africa under 23s but didn’t hold the required paperwork.
The talented frontman has, however, since been cleared to represent the country of his father’s birth, and could feature in games against Uganda and South Sudan in the coming weeks.
Van Duivenbooden told iDiski Times: “Yes, [I’m excited] this means a lot to me and my family, as a little boy you dream of this and now it really happens and that is beautiful.
“I thought it was a shame that I could not be with the U23s but never managed to get my passport and now we are here [with the senior squad].”
