Shandre Campbell promoted to Club Brugge’s first team

Former SuperSport United forward Shandre Campbell has earned a promotion to Club Brugge’s first team after delivering standout performances for their feeder team, Club NXT.

The 19-year-old attacker, who signed for the Belgian giants last year, has been in sensational form, scoring six goals in 13 matches, including the opening goal against RSC Anderlecht II last Saturday.

Matthews revealed that Campbell is already training with Brugge’s senior squad and could be worth millions of Euros in the coming years.

“He has just been called up from the second team to the Brugge first team. Their CEO (Bob Madou) called me on Friday morning to say Shandre has been promoted after six goals and two assists,” Matthews told Sportswire.com.

“Now, he is training full-time with the first team, and a player like Shandre, in two or three years, could be worth €40-50 million.”

SuperSport United will benefit financially from any future sale, with Matthews emphasizing that the club’s percentage stake in Campbell’s transfer could generate millions of rands in the future, just like they are set to do with Ime Okon, who has two offers abroad.

Campbell now has the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Percy Tau, who also played for Club Brugge in 2019.

With his rapid development, the South African U-20 international could soon attract the attention of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, especially with the FIFA World Cup qualifiers coming up in March and AFCON later this year.
