Sekhukhune United secure deadline day acquisition of Sipho Mbule from Mamelodi Sundowns

In a stunning deadline-day move, Sekhukhune United have successfully signed talented midfielder Sipho Mbule on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

This transfer follows closely on the heels of head coach Lehlohonolo Seema’s recent denial of rumours linking Mbule to Sekhukhune.

At Sundowns, Mbule has grappled with injury setbacks and has only recently returned to full training. The fierce competition for midfield spots within the star-studded Sundowns squad has further limited his playing time.

Recognizing that his opportunities would be minimal this season, Sekhukhune seized the chance to bring him on loan. Mbule still has a year remaining on his contract with Sundowns.

Originally joining Sundowns on a three-year deal from SuperSport United ahead of the 2022/23 season, Mbule made 20 league appearances in his first year and followed up with 16 in the last season.

The 26-year-old could potentially make his debut for Sekhukhune United when they face Chippa United on Wednesday.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club would like to announce the signing of Sipho Mbule, on loan, from Mamelodi Sundowns. Mbule joins Babina Noko, having played 51 games in the past two seasons at the Chloorkop-based outfit.

“‘Master Chef’ as Mbule is affectionately known, will have his work cut out in a team that has been business like in its acquisitions, in the off season,” read a statement on Babina Noko’s official X account.
