Orlando Pirates face a stern test of their cup credentials at home to Cape Town City in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final on Saturday.
There is nothing separating the two sides from the first leg that ended a goal apiece at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday after 90 minutes.
The Buccaneers had taken a 15th minute through Relebohile Mofokeng but were pegged back by a 61st minute Jaedin Rhodes equaliser.
Pirates have won the past two MTN8 trophies under current head coach Jose Riveiro, but Citizens’ boss Eric Tinkler has also tasted success in this competition when he won the title back in the 2016/17 season during his first spell with City.
Ahead of the upcoming game, Riveiro insisted he’s confident of a positive result having found a way past City in the first tie.
He explained in the Citizen: “You can just imagine how important it is [to get the away goal] because it’s much better than the nil-nil score.
“So I’m happy with the goal, but unhappy with the goal we conceded because we want to win every game. And Saturday, it’s not going to be an exception.
“It’s another game on Saturday and trust me, we are not going to think that a nil-nil score will be enough. We’ll play to win the match. The 1-1 is nice because we got the away goal, but we’ll go for the win.”
Tinkler is, meanwhile, determined to overcome Pirates after feeling his side should have claimed victory from the first clash.
He said: “The whole idea was to dominate for the whole 90 minutes. Had we done that I think we would’ve come away with more than the 1-1 draw. But the response from the players in the second half, I’m happy.
“We take those positives and go to that side and play with the same energy, the same intensity, but with a more positive mentality, knowing that we need to score the away goal.”
