Rulani Mokwena credits Mamelodi Sundowns for dominating Bafana set-up

Rulani Mokwena says Mamelodi Sundowns must be doing something right to have so many players in the Bafana set-up.

Hugo Broos recently named his 23-man final squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations that takes place in the Ivory Coast from January 13.

Ten of those selected players come from the DStv Premiership champions and are expected to do duty for their country.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, and following a 0-0 DStv Premiership draw with Polokwane City, the Brazilians boss expressed his pride.

He said in the Citizen: “Firstly, I must congratulate the club because it means that we are recruiting the right talent and it’s the club that does that and not me.

“Secondly, you have to give credit to the players because there are a lot of similar stories. The coach had written Themba Zwane off and said he was too old but he didn’t go to the media and complain.

“He let his performances speak for him and today he is one of Bafana Bafana’s most important players. Khuliso Mudau, the coach was resisting to pick him but now Sailor is in the national team.”

Bafana take on Mali, Namibia and Tunisia in Group E of the biennial tournament.
