Roger de Sa Questions Kaizer Chiefs Squad Depth

South African experienced coach Roger de Sa has called on Kaizer Chiefs to strengthen their squad in order to compete at the top of the Betway Premiership.

There have been some signs of improvement at Amakhosi this season under new head coach Nasreddine Nabi but the team continues to underperform.

They started their most recent Betway Premiership clash with Royal AM with two fast goals, from Ashley Du Preez (5′) and Wandile Duba (13′), but were pegged back in the second half as Ayabulela Maxwele (51′) and Levy Mashiane (89′) both scored to secure a share of the spoils.

The former Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates admits it will take some investment from Chiefs to have the kind of squad able to adequately compete for the South African top-flight.

He said on KickOff: “What happened to Chiefs on Saturday can happen in football.

“Let’s be honest, the coach inherited these players, so I think he will need a bit of time to bring in one or two new players. Once he adds new players, I believe things will be different.

“I believe the current composition of the Chiefs squad is strong, but during the next transfer window, I expect there may be a few new players joining the team. I don’t think this squad is as strong as a Kaizer Chiefs squad should be.

“When you’re 2-0 up, scoring the third goal becomes crucial. If Kaizer Chiefs had scored that third goal, it would have been game over. But since Royal AM got that incredible goal instead, it changed the dynamics of the match.”
