Richards Bay coach Brandon Truter: With patience we can succeed

Richards Bay coach Brandon Truter has urged for patience after the club’s slow start to the Betway Premiership season.

The Natal Rich Boyz are in 12th place on the league standings with five points from their opening six games.

Their only win came on the first day of the season with a 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy, while they also overcame Sekhukhune United 1-0 in their Carling Knockout Cup last 16 tie

But they head into their quarter-final clash with Cape Town City on the back of a 2-0 Premiership loss to Sekhukhune, while it doesn’t get any easier, with their next league game against table toppers Orlando Pirates.

Last season Richards Bay ended in 15th place and had to secure their survival via the relegation/promotional playoffs.

Truter said on FARPost: “That’s always been the challenge [patience]. I have experienced it before, and we say we’re building, revamping, and covering, but the results don’t go our way.

“Rather than that, it requires patience. We need to consider where the team comes from and the players that we have at our disposal.

“So far, I’m happy with the build-up, and I’m pleased with the defence. We conceded two goals [against Sekhukhune], which is unlike us, but in the midfield, we did very well in competing with the likes of Sipho Mbule. You could see the confidence of Yanela Mbuthuma; he was called up to the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad [for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers].

“It’s a young team, and we need to build on that. The season is still young; we are in match five or six, so we are looking forward to what we can build on.”
