Iqraam Rayners says SuperSport United should be competing for trophies every season.
Matsatsantsa have been in something of a rebuilding phase over the past few seasons but recently dispensed with head coach Kaitano Tembo and are yet to name his replacement.
Andre Arendse remains in temporary charge as interim head coach until a permanent successor is appointed.
But Rayners believes that the club have the capacity to compete with the best teams in the DStv Premiership.
He Told KickOff: “We can compete against the likes of Cape Town City, Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs,” Rayners said. “All season long, we should have beaten a lot of these teams, but things just weren’t happening for us.
“Sometimes you need that little bit of luck to win those games which we didn’t always get. That said, you also need to have that killer instinct to win those games, which we didn’t always have either, but sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn’t.”
SuperSport won the South African top-flight in 2008, 2009 and 2010. They last won the MTN8 in 2019.
The former Santos and Stellenbosch attacker added: “We will try next season again and we will keep on fighting for those top spots. It must be that SuperSport United starts competing again because SuperSport United is a club that wins titles and trophies.
“Every season, the club must win a trophy and they have shown that over the years. But for two seasons now, we did not win anything, and that must change. We will keep on fighting next season to try and achieve that goal.”
