Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has been named Betway Premiership Coach of the Month for September/October following a perfect start to his league campaign while Lucas Ribeiro and Fawaaz Basadien also received nods for their performances.
Riveiro guided the Soweto giants to victory in all seven of their opening matches, placing Pirates at the top of the standings with 21 points.
“Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has been awarded the Betway Premiership Coach of the Month for September and October 2024. The Spanish tactician led the Buccaneers to a flawless start in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, guiding his team to victory in each of their first six matches,” reads the PSL statement.
The Spaniard emerged ahead of strong contenders Manqoba Mngqithi, head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns who are currently three points behind Pirates and Polokwane City’s Phuti Mohafe.
Ribeiro received the Player of the Month Award having netted four goals and provided two assists.
The 26-year-old scored the opening goal in Sundowns’ 2-0 against Marumo Gallants on Sunday which saw them book a spot in the final of the Carling Knockout Cup.
Fawaaz Basadien’s spectacular halfway-line strike on September 25, when Stellenbosch defeated Cape Town City 3-0 in the Cape Derby, earned him the Goal of the Month Award.
Basadien looks to be continuing with last season’s brilliance as he received another national team call-up. He is part of Bafana’s squad that will battle Uganda and South Sudan.
