Royal Andile Mpisane defeated AmaZulu 2-1 in the final of the Premier’s Cup at the Harry Gwala Stadium in an entertaining affair on Sunday afternoon.
AM, who have three co-coaches at the helm, scraped through the quarterfinals beating Richards Bay 7-6 on penalties. It was the same result in the semis against a gallant Uthongathi FC as AM triumphed 4-2 on penalties again after it ended 2-2 in regulation time.
Meanwhile, AmaZulu defeated a young Golden Arrows side 4-3 on penalties to set up the final against AM.

The final was an end-to-end affair, with AM enjoying more possession. Man of the match, Mfundo Thikazi entertained the crowd with his silky moves and set plays. AM went to the halftime break leading 1-0 through Captain, Manganyi, who volleyed in from close range to give AM a deserved lead.

AM increased the intensity in the second half, rotating the ball whilst entertaining the crowd.

AmaZulu made substitutions which changed the complexion of the game.

Msindisi Ndlovu came in for Dumisani Zuma and Usuthu controlled the ball more they hunted an equalizer with more energy and intent.

Like AM in the first half, AmaZulu pressure earned them a corner and Augustine Kwem made no mistake to equalize for AmaZulu to the joy of the fans.

In the 84th minute, AmaZulu defender was adjudged to have fouled Thabo Matlaba inside the penalty box and Ruzaigh Gamakdien made no mistake to score from the penalty spot to restore AM’s lead in the 85th minute.

AmaZulu will once again feel hard done by the match officials who booked Thato Lingwati twice in the same match but failed to send him off.

AM conquered the province and won themselves the KZN Premier’s Cup 2022.
