PREVIEW: Swedish Allsvenskan Gameweek 12

It’s still early days but league leader Malmo could keep their spot at the table’s summit if they can get the better of Brommapojkarna while Djurgarden and GAIS chase them down in second and third place respectively. At the opposite end of the table, Kalmer looks to earn points off last place Vasteras, Norrkoping takes on Sirius with just a point separating the two, and Hacken faces AIK in a fascinating fixture as both clubs come into this tie winless in the past three matches.

Saturday 1 June

39/20 IFK Goteborg | Draw 2/1 | Elfsborg 11/10 (15:00)

This will be the first meeting between these two clubs this season and if history is anything to go by then we are in for an entertaining first encounter. Elfsborg has not lost to Goteborg in the last eight encounters making them clear favourites. Goteborg will have home-ground advantage to count on and will need the energy and passion from their home fans to inspire a performance worthy of maximum points on the day. Back the away win.

37/10 Brommapojkarna | Draw 49/20 | Malmo 6/10 (15:00)

Brommapojkarna has a tough task of getting the better of log leaders Malmo. A near-perfect performance is required on the day as Brommapojkarna has lost the last five meetings with Malmo and to make matters worse they have failed to keep a clean sheet across the last seven matches. Malmo at the moment is playing with confidence and a win will see them maintain their position at the top of the table and stretch their unbeaten run to five games. My money is on Malmo for the win.

22/10 Halmstad | Draw 39/20 | GAIS 21/20 (17:30)

Halmstad welcomes third-place GAIS to the Orjans Vall Stadium for an exciting clash as these clubs know each other very well. Halmstad is looking to recover from two consecutive defeats where they have also failed to hit the back of the net. GAIS is in the top three and looking to take advantage of Halmstad’s poor form of late to register their third consecutive victory. Whenever these two clubs meet it’s a very entertaining and open match where anything is possible. I back GAIS for the win.

8/10 Sirius | Draw 9/4 | Norrkoping 28/10 (17:30)

Super exciting fixture on the cards here as one point separates these clubs on the log standings. This is the first meeting between the two this season and a win for either team could be a morale booster as both clubs are winless in the last three matches. Norrkoping will need to lock up defensively as they have failed to keep a clean sheet across the previous seven matches while Sirius is looking to extend their head-to-head streak to six games against Norrkoping with home ground advantage at their disposal. Back the home win and BTTS.

Sunday 2 June

7/10 Djurgarden | Draw 24/10 | Hammarby 32/10 (14:00)

The home team has gotten the better of Hammerby in the last six meetings with Djurgarden winning two, Hammarby with a single victory, and three ending in a stalemate. It’s clear that these two clubs bring their A-game whenever they meet as well as goals. After recording a brace in his previous match, Djurgarden’s rising star Lucas Bergvall will be looking to add to his goal tally. Hammerby will need to come up with a game plan that best suits their style of play as they have won just a single away fixture in five games. Djurgarden to win and extend their unbeaten streak.

14/10 Kalmar | Draw 39/20 | Vasteras SK 16/10 (14:00)

This is the first-ever meeting between Kalmar and Vasteras. Both clubs have had a terrible start to their season as they sit 15th and 16th respectively. Despite Kalmar’s position on the log, they have enjoyed more than 2.5 goals in six out of eight games which will give them confidence to go all out for the win and add extra pressure on Vasteras who have failed to win any of their games away from home this season. I back the home win in this one.

1/1 Hacken | Draw 43/20 | AIK 9/4 (16:30)

Hacken is largely the favourites in this fixture, from the last nine meetings Hacken has won seven and two going the way of AIK. Danish midfielder Mikkel Rygaard will need to bring his A-game for Hacken, use his creativity, and dictate play in hopes of getting his team over the line. AIK will depend on Ioannis Pittas to be aggressive in the final third and add to his tally of five goals. I back Hacken to claim maximum points at home.

2/1 Varnamo | Draw 2/1 | Mjallby 11/10 (16:30)

The final game of gameweek 12 sees Varnamo welcome Mjallby to the Finnvedsvallen Stadium. Varnamo has the worst record at home this season with just one point from five games. A massive performance is needed on the day in hopes of registering their first win at home while Mjallby is looking to bounce back after two consecutive defeats. Despite back-to-back losses, I back Mjallby for the win.
