PREVIEW: ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

And so here we are! It is the final round of fixtures for the 2023/24 English Premier League season! It has been an absolute pleasure as always to join you on the ride – the title will be decided, Sheffield, Burnley, and Luton will leave us…but we still have a job to do today!

Sunday 19 May

1/6 Liverpool | Draw 6/1 | Wolves 13/1 (17:00)

Liverpool would have been disappointed with their inconsistent display against Aston Villa, however, with Jurgen Klopp seeing out his final game at Anfield (on his farewell tour) I suspect the stadium will be absolutely bouncing.

Wolves will be looking forward to their break and so a home win is certainly on the cards. For more value though, I would back the Liverpool win and over 2.5 goals.

6/1 Sheffield | Draw 48/10 | Tottenham 3/10 (17:00)

Sheffield’s campaign has been absolutely disastrous, they have conceded 101 league goals and I’m not sure it will stay like that come the end of this game! I know they might want to put on a show at home for the last time in the League this year – but I think Spurs could batter them here.

Back the visitors + over 2.5 goals.

33/20 Luton | Draw 11/4 | Fulham 27/20 (17:00)

Luton have let themselves down – there is no two ways about it. They started the year off with some really positive performances before imploding. Fulham will already be thinking of the summer break though, I don’t see much in this one to be honest. Back the draw.

1/1 Brighton | Draw 29/10 | Manchester United 2/1 (17:00)

Brighton will have no fear of this Manchester United side, in fact, they will likely be up for the opportunity to end their season on a high. You just get the feeling that if they are able to have a crack at United, they will win the game.

United have shown nothing to justify any belief in them – back the hosts.

1/11 Manchester City | Draw 17/2 | West Ham 19/1 (17:00)

West Ham managed to give David Moyes a good send-off in his last home game, but I don’t think this will come anywhere close. West Ham’s form leaves a lot to be desired whilst City are getting to their outright best.

Back the home side to win both halves.

1/6 Arsenal | Draw 6/1 | Everton 14/1 (17:00)

You have to give it to Arsenal; they have been brilliant this season. There will no doubt be a frustration that even after such a competitive season they come away with nothing – but stranger things have happened in the League!

Everton will see this as a free-hit and fair play to them, but I don’t think they can stop this Arteta side.

43/20 Brentford | Draw 26/10 | Newcastle 21/20 (17:00)

The Bees always carry a threat, and when they play at home, I think that threat is heightened! Newcastle is ending their season really strongly; Eddie Howe seems to demand it and it is glorious to watch.

I’m all over that away win.

21/20 C Palace | Draw 11/4 | Aston Villa 21/110 (17:00)

Villa relies at times on individual brilliance, but with that being said, they are still squarely in the mix to earn European entry. Palace has been brilliant though, this will be a tough game for sure, but both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals is the pick.

18/10 Burnley | Draw 49/20 | Nottm Forest 27/20 (17:00)

Burnley was hanging on by a thread last time out, but their fate has been sealed. Forest saw their points deduction upheld, but they still managed to come away somewhat unscathed.

This could be the tastiest dead-rubber game you will see, but for money-making potential I think both teams scoring is a banker.

9/20 Chelsea | Draw 39/10 | Bournemouth 44/10 (17:00)

Chelsea has begun to hit a bit of form, Mauricio Pochettino is a good manager and proving once again why patience has always been a virtue…even for millionaire American owners!

Bournemouth have had a superb season; they have seen a whole lot of value come about as a result of their fearless approach this year (long may it continue). Chelsea is pushing hard for European relevance; I’m backing them to win – but the Cherries will score.
