PREVIEW: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen | Sunday 21 April | Signal Iduna Park | 19:30

The German Bundesliga Champions make their way to the Signal Iduna Park to receive a guard of honour. But the big question on everyone’s mind is, ‘can Xabi Alonso’s men go invincible’? While Bayer Leverkusen hope for something spectacular, Borussia Dortmund’s fight to remain in the Champions League is still on.

To Win (90min)
Borussia Dortmund 5/4
Draw 11/4
Bayer Leverkusen 7/4

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to move back into the top four places in the Bundesliga when they put up a guard of honour for Bayer Leverkusen at the Signal Iduna Park.

The hosts are currently fifth place in the league tied on 56 points with fourth placed RB Leipzig and five games to go. Borussia Dortmund have only conceded two goals in their last seven away league matches, but their home form is not as exemplary, conceding 10 in just as many, three of which were losses. Edin Terzic’s men were in Champions League action in midweek but kept one eye on the upcoming weekend fixture.

Dortmund was missing Jadon Sancho against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday due to illness, but the on-loan Manchester United attacker was present in their midweek encounter. Sebastien Haller picked up a knock in the team’s last league match, which saw him replaced early on, and his presence must be kept a close eye on.

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen secured the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history courtesy of a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen last Sunday afternoon, and the ultimate goal is firmly in mind – to complete a 34-game season undefeated. There has been huge speculation surrounding Xabi Alonso’s future as head coach, with both Liverpool and Bayern Munich believed to be keen to appoint him this summer.

Alonso’s men have five games to invincibility, Dortmund, Stuttgart, Bochum and Augsburg. Two teams fighting for UCL football, and two teams fighting to remain in the league.

The player to watch right now from the Red and Blacks is Florian Wirtz, 11 goals and 10 assists in the league this season with a spectacular hat-trick to seal the title.

Prediction: Bayer Leverkusen to win at 7/4

Bayer Leverkusen have been head and shoulders better than every other side in the Bundesliga this season and now have the title to back the form. Borussia Dortmund have taken on all-comers this term and even with much to play for, Leverkusen’s momentum should return a further three points.
