PREVIEW: Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal vs Liverpool | Sunday 4 February |The Emirates | 18:30

It’s a game which traditionally gets the blood pumping and sees goals scored on both ends, however in recent times – whilst the intensity of the rivalry remains unmatched and the expectation in the stands is unrelenting – only one of these sides looks comfortable in front of goal!

To Win (90 mins)

 Arsenal 11/10

Draw 26/10

Liverpool 2/1

Arsenal

Arsenal have been pipped by their fierce north London rivals for goalmouth action and heart stopping entertainment in front of goal. Mikel Arteta seems to be unperturbed by his side’s seemingly lack luster performances in front of goal.

I suppose this is largely due to their ability to defend and limit the chances their opponents have in their final third. Their defensive data pits them amongst the best side in the league for seeing significantly less goals scored against them when compared to the expected goals market.

Declan Rice has shown a growth and maturity in his game which – in my opinion – just elevates him even more as a young player. We know that he is able to create chances going forward and work in those little midfield pockets…but defensively time and again limiting the time and space for their opponents, screening the center backs and then seemingly turning defence to attack has seen his connection with the likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes keep Arsenal competitive and relevant.

Liverpool

No Salah no problem for Liverpool? I know the statistic of Liverpool’s successes continues to do the rounds whilst the Egyptian is injured – but lest we forget what an unbelievable talent Mo Salah is.

With that being said though, Curtis Jones (since returning from injury in December) when playing at Anfield just continues to rack up unbelievable attacking threats. He is brimming with confidence, and I don’t see why he will have too many issues when paying away from home.

There seems to be an added impotence around Liverpool since Jurgen Klopp announced that he was, well, over it. I know I am horribly facetious, but I’m not going to apologize and I might just do it again. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Klopp looking to go out with an incredibly aggressive bang.

I like the look of Liverpool here.

Prediction: Liverpool (2/1)

I cannot believe the price available for the away win. I mean I almost fell of my chair! Liverpool will be unapologetic about their attack and even away from home I suspect they will smell blood in the water and look to have a go at Arsenal here.

Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled in the final third and gotten away with it by being really resolute and compact defensively – I doubt this can be the approach for 90 minutes against a side hungry to break you down.
