PREVIEW: 2023/24 DStv Premiership – Week 8

DStv Premiership action returns with some mid-week blockbusters not to be missed. Can Arrows keep the pressure on runaway leaders Sundowns? And Can Spurs finally get off the mark?

Wednesday,

Swallows 12/10 | Draw 2/1 | Chippa United 49/20

Steve Komphela’s men deservedly sit in their spot ahead of their league clash with 5th Chippa United who’ve won three of their last five matches. Both sides are playing really well, but Chippa will be the more confident side having scored in each of their last four games. For Swallows, building on from that narrow 2-1 win over AmaZulu will be crucial and this match is a perfect opportunity for them to do so. Chippa United will most likely sit back and invite Swallows to break them down, which will lead to errors for them to pounce on! Swallows have scored a goal in the second half in heir last two matches. I back them on the Home win here at 12/10.

Stellenbosch 27/20 | Draw 19/10 | 9/4 TS Galaxy

TS Galaxy are looking to return to their inspirational form that saw them pick up wins against Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town Spurs in the opening games of the season. They visit another struggling side in Stellenbosch on Wednesday night after failing to secure a win against Richards Bay last weekend where they scored the first goal of the match. They also haven’t scored more than 1 goal in a league match since May this year. I see a low-scoring encounter here, and a draw at 19/10.

Cape Town Spurs 38/10 | Draw 23/10 | SuperSport United 15/20

Winless Spurs will have a chance to register their first win of the season when they take on SuperSport United at home on Wednesday night. The club announced the sacking of Shaun Bartlett and the appointment of Vasili Manousakis as assistant coach to temporary head coach Sean Connor earlier this week. But Matsatsantsa will be too strong for Spurs, and could run riot if they are not defended against. Away win is the play – 15/20.

Richards Bay 31/20 | Draw 39/20 | Polokwane City 37/20

Polokwane City clash with Richards Bay at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday as they look to cement their position in the top-half of the log. They have had a pretty decent start to the season – winning three of their opening seven matches. And Richards Bay are a wounded side at the moment having failed to beat Chippa United and TS Galaxy in their last two matches. Another low-scoring encounter is on the cards here. Both Teams to Score (Yes) – 1/1.

Thursday,

Sekhukhune United 33/20 | Draw 37/20 | Golden Arrows 37/20

Babina Noko were narrowly defeated by Kaizer Chiefs in their last outing and find themselves in seventh position ahead of their clash with second-placed Golden Arrows on Thursday night. Arrows have been near perfect this season, and look determined to chase Mamelodi Sundowns all the way to the end of the campaign. They are also the second-highest scorers behind the log leaders with 11 goals. For Sekhukhune, a win here would see them move to 13 points and possibly leapfrog Swallows in third position. First Team To Score – Golden Arrows at 12/10.
