Pitso Mosimane believes Kaizer Chiefs have every chance of breaking Mamelodi Sundowns’ league record of 71 points in a single season judging by their current form.
Sundowns recorded the highest-ever points haul in Absa Premiership history when they accumulated 71 points in the 2015/2016 season and Mosimane admits he would not be surprised if Chiefs reach the 75-point mark.
Amakhosi have picked up 31 points from their opening 12 games, with 10 wins, a draw and a loss.
“If they win the league we should stand up and give them the biggest round of applause and if they match the record,” Mosimane told KickOff.
“The 71 points we have done, I said we will never match that record at Sundowns. The way they are going for me it’s 75 points. The way I calculate it’s 75 points.
“Remember the 71 points we had was 22 wins out of 30. It’s a big one.
“They are on a roll, they are going well. Don’t be jealous. We can talk about other things that are linked to how they win games but at the end those are wins. Look at the log and be realistic.”
Sundowns also hold the record for the most number of points in a 34-game season (75) which was achieved in 1998/99 and 1999/00.
