Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joins Barcelona

Barcelona has confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal FOR FREE.

Barcelona has struck a deal with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer deal. Arsenal released Aubameyang without compensation, and the player agreed on a major pay cut before signing with the Catalan Giants.

Auba signed a contract until 30 June 2025 with an option to agree departure on 30 June 2023 and his buy out clause will be set at 100 million euros.

Hours before the deal was struck, to the “surprise” of Arsenal, Aubameyang flew to Barcelona in an attempt to hasten the move through to Barca.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s last Arsenal appearance came on December 6, and he was stripped of the captaincy later that month after disciplinary issues. The Gabonese national was left out of the Gunners’ training camp in Dubai this month.

Before the events leading up to Aubameyang’s ousting, under Mikel Arteta, the forward was not performing on the field of play. Aubameyang made 15 appearances, scored seven goals, and assisted two for Arsenal this 2021/22 season. Despite what the statistics may say, Arsenal’s now-former number 14 was not himself when featuring, missing opportunities you wouldn’t want falling to any other player.

All was not doom and gloom between Pierre and Arsenal. One Community Shield, an FA Cup trophy (in which he played a pivotal role), and a Premier League Golden Boot in the 2018/19 season with 22 goals. The forward was prolific in retrospect bringing up a half-century of Premier League goals for the Gunners in just his 75th appearance, eclipsing Thierry Henry’s record of just as many goals in 83 matches. In total Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made 163 appearances, scoring 92, and assisting 21 goals.

A long and successful Bundesliga campaign with Borussia Dortmund, followed by more success at Arsenal, and now the 32-year-old is set to make his first appearance for La Liga’s finest, Barcelona.
