Phuti Mohafe hails Polokwane City players following victory against Kaizer Chiefs

Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe has hailed his side’s impressive performances against some of South Africa’s football giants.

Wins over Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, along with a hard-fought draw against TS Galaxy, have propelled the Limpopo-based team to third in the league with 17 points from 10 matches.

In October, Polokwane stunned defending champions Sundowns with a narrow 1-0 victory. This was followed by a gritty 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy and a stunning 2-0 triumph over Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.

Reflecting on these results, Mohafe described them as pivotal in showcasing his team’s growth under his guidance.

“These have been special matches for Polokwane City,” Mohafe said after the Chiefs victory. “We’ve treated them with the seriousness they deserve, and they reflect the work we are putting in as a technical team.”

Mohafe praised TS Galaxy in particular, suggesting they presented an even tougher challenge than Sundowns and Chiefs. “Galaxy is a strong team, even stronger than Sundowns and Chiefs, in my opinion.

“They are very difficult to beat,” he added.

The coach’s tactical acumen has not gone unnoticed. Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi, speaking after their loss to Polokwane, labelled Mohafe as “the next big thing in South African football coaching.”

As Polokwane City continue to exceed expectations, their results have become a reflection of their discipline and preparation. Mohafe’s leadership has undoubtedly been central to their success, earning him widespread recognition and cementing the team’s status as serious contenders this season.
