Payday: Sundowns players and staff in line for R100m boost after TotalEnergies CAF Champions League triumph

Mamelodi Sundowns have secured a R100 million financial boost following their CAF Champions League final victory over Morocco’s Botola Pro 1 side, AS FAR.

 
The Brazilians secured a 2-1 aggregate win after a 1-0 home victory and 1-1 draw away in Rabat on Sunday evening.
 
 
Aubrey Modiba was on target with a superb first-half free-kick at Loftus Vesfeld and Teboho Mokoena sealed Sundowns’ progression with his screamer of an equaliser just before half-time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
 
According to the Confederation of African Football, their prize for conquering Africa is $6 million or roughly R100 million.
 
The runners-up receive $2,000,000, the losing semi-finalists get $1,200,000, while losing quarter-finalists bag $900,000. Third in group stage scoop $700,000, fourth in group stage also get $700,000, as preliminary round teams take home $100,000.
 
Sundowns may well reward their team for their efforts, with reports suggesting that players and technical team will share a large chunk of the total prize money, as much as 70%, with the rest divided up amongst the administration, logistics and support staff.
