Orlando Pirates fined following missile-throwing incident

Orlando Pirates have been fined for fan misbehaviour during the club’s Carling Knockout Cup defeat to Magesi last month.

Supporters could be seen throwing objects onto the pitch as the Buccaneers suffered a 3-2 loss to the newly-promoted side at the Orlando Stadium.

Premier Soccer League prosecutor Zola Majavu explained that the Betway Premiership side appeared before a disciplinary committee on Monday.

Pirates have since been fined R100,000 with half suspended for a year.

Majavu said in the Sowetan: “Earlier this morning [Monday] Orlando Pirates appeared before the PSL disciplinary committee (DC) to answer to charges of spectator misbehaviour arising from a missile-throwing incident wherein spectators threw an assortment of objects at the match officials in their match against Magesi FC.

“Pirates pleaded guilty and were convicted.

“They were further ordered to carry the costs of the DC proceedings.”
