Orlando Pirates dominate KZN trio

The Mighty Buccaneers put four past Royal AM without reply, after handing Amazulu back-to-back defeats. Indeed, that 7-1 drubbing of Golden Arrows at the top end of the month served as the signal …

Orlando Pirates started April with a bang, beating KZN-based outfit Golden Arrows 7-1 at the Orlando Stadium. The stupendous performance by the Bucs saw them race into a 3-nil lead by the halftime whistle.

Jose Riveiro’s men were in cruise control of the match, with forward Tshegofatso Mabasa bagging a hat-trick in that one. The rampant result ensured that the Soweto giants kept their CAF Champions League qualification hopes alive.

Up next was a doubleheader against a fired-up Amazulu outfit. Jose Riviero sent his compatriot Pablo Martin packing from the Nedbank Cup before handing his fellow Spaniard a second defeat within the space of a week in the DsTV Premiership. That result saw the Bucs occupy second spot in the league standings – level on points with third-placed Stellenbosch FC.

Pirates made it four wins in a row when they squared off with Royal AM at the Harry Gwala Stadium. Patrick Maswanganyi proved to be a thorn in the Royal AM defense.

Pirates’ 4-nil victory was sealed by inspired ‘Tito’ who finished the game with two assists and a goal. The Bafana Bafana international dispatched his first-half spot-kick, before playing in Thalente Mbatha and Kabelo Dlamini.
