Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah targets a return

Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah has endured a frustrating interruption to his season after sustaining an injury in September.

Ndah, who had been in fine form, played a key role alongside Thabiso Sesane at the heart of the Buccaneers’ defence.

The 26-year-old Nigerian made nine appearances across all competitions before the setback, even scoring his first goal for the club in the MTN8 Cup, a competition Pirates went on to defend successfully.

However, during a match against Polokwane City on September 24, Ndah landed awkwardly after an aerial duel, sparking fears of a serious leg injury.

Initially, speculation suggested a possible leg break, but medical assessments later revealed the injury wasn’t as severe as first thought.

Still, the dreadlocked defender was ruled out for the remainder of the year, raising concerns that his recovery might extend well into the second half of the season.

“It’s been several weeks that he has been out, and there has been progress made along the way,” revealed a source close to the club. “It would have been worse if there was a leg break or something like that, but fortunately, it didn’t get to that.

“He should be back early next year, probably late January or early February.”

In Ndah’s absence, Nkosinathi Sibisi has stepped up admirably, forming a solid partnership with Sesane.

Additionally, the return of Tapelo Xoki after a long injury layoff has bolstered Pirates’ defensive options, though Xoki is still regaining full fitness.

Ndah’s potential return early next year could provide a timely boost as Pirates aim to maintain their strong defensive performances in the second half of the season.

Fans will undoubtedly be eager to see the towering defender back in action.
