Mamelodi Sundowns captain Denis Onyango says the upcoming season will be “interesting” as a number of teams have significantly strengthened.
The Brazilians strolled to the 2021/22 DStv Premiership title for their fifth consecutive league success.
They also bagged a historic domestic treble as they scooped the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies.
The CAF Champions League trophy, however, again alluded the side as they exited the competition at the quarter-final stage.
Speaking to the Sundowns website, Onyango said: “We are looking forward to the next season, it’s going to be interesting because teams have also beefed up their squads and we all need to give our best and try to win the Champions League because it’s overdue now.
“We believe that we have the ability and the quality to do that.”
The skipper, meanwhile, lauded the impact of the club’s supporters en route to winning the league last season.
“When the stadiums finally opened they [the supporters] came in numbers, especially in the MTN8 they were with us and pushed us until the last whistle and that’s how we managed to win the MTN8. And of course in the league as well, the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Champions League they’ve been fantastic.
“All we need to do is to keep encouraging them to come to the stadium and to push the boys because their support is really, really important to the team and we believe that we can go and win more trophies in the coming season.”
