Ofori: Bucs committed to Confederation Cup glory

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori says they are totally focused on winning Friday’s CAF Confederation Cup final against RS Berkane.

The match will be taking place at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria and kicks off at 21h00.

Pirates will be hoping to win their first-ever Confederation Cup title to put the domestic league and cup failures behind them this season under co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.

In an interview with media, Bucs keeper Ofori said they wanted to win the final on Friday to make the club fans and country happy.

“If we want people to still talk about us, we need to win,” Ofori tells media.

“We can’t just be happy about going to the final. We want more and that is the clear message. We need to win so that in many years to come when they talk about this club this group of players will be also mentioned.

“That is the clear message that we always talk about and that is the feeling that we have, and it is the most important feeling as well.

“So, we need to do everything to make the club and country happy,” says the 28-year-old Ofori.

“We always talk about this cup because we’ve come a long way and the journey wasn’t easy.

“Even when we are training, we always talk about that we need to finish this tournament in a good shape and not by just being part of the final.

“It is not what we are looking for, so we always talk about that we need to win this tournament.

“Like the coach said the players that weren’t in the team put it out there that no one remembers the (losing) finalists,” the Bucs goalkeeper added.

“The only time you are remembered is when they are showing the cup final next year and what will be remembered is that ‘this is the Orlando Pirates team which played in the final last season’. That is the only thing.

“The ones that are remembered are those that made history which are the winners of the trophy.

“We all know about that and as players, we talk about it,” he details ahead of the final that will be played closer to home in Ghana following a season in which he missed a sizeable portion due to injury.

“We have to make sure that we deliver and that is what we are focusing on,” Ofori adds.
