Nyiko Mobbie set to join Chippa United

Mamelodi Sundowns signed Nyiko Mobbie from Free State Stars

Mamelodi Sundowns signed Nyiko Mobbie from Free State Stars during this transfer window but it seems like the full-back is not on coach Pitso Mosimane’s plans this season.

An aggressive, attacking defender, the Limpopo-born broke into Free State Stars’ first-team in the 2017/18 season under the Belgian mentor Luc Eymael where they enjoyed success, winning the Nedbank Cup.

Last season, under Nikola Kavazovic, Mobbie kept his place registering 25 league appearances whilst getting three assists and starting all three cup games (MTN 8, Telkom Knock Out and Nedbank Cup).

The 24-year-old’s consistencies over the last two seasons were rewarded with a national team call-up and attracted interest from the ‘big three’ with Sundowns winning the battle to sign the talented full-back.

The Brazilians have the services of former Bafana Bafana right-back Anele Ngcongca and the talented Thapelo Morena, which means Mobbie might struggle getting game time, so loaning him out could perhaps be the right thing to do.

There were hints suggesting that the Limpopo-born defender could be loaned out to his former club who are now relegated to Glad Africa Championship formerly known as the NFD.

“Nyiko Mobbie is a young, very dynamic full-back who has played at the very highest level with Free State Stars and helped them win the Nedbank Cup. He wants to stay and play regularly in the PSL and the boy is in talks with Chippa United, expect an announcement soon” said the source.

It’s no secret that Chippa United needs to bolster their defence and a player with such potential would be a perfect signing for Clinton Larsen.
