Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro rued his side’s missed chances after a frustrating goalless draw with Disciples FC in Madagascar on Sunday.
The Buccaneers were expected to comfortably overcome the minnows but spurned several golden opportunities. Riveiro is demanding a more clinical performance when the two teams meet for the second leg at Orlando Stadium on Friday evening.
Despite the disappointment of failing to grab an away goal, the coach remains optimistic about Pirates’ chances of progressing to the next round. Speaking to the club’s media department, Riviero said,
I think the opposition today [Sunday] was excellent and every result would have been possible like winning,”
“I think both sides had very clear chances and, strangely, we finished the game goalless. We could not manage to capitalise ours to get a goal advantage at least to go into the second leg with an advantage.
“But we didn’t concede it is also important and in less than one week, we have to finalise this in Orlando and we know that it is not going to be easy like I said because they are a good team and we have to do everything to impose ourselves.”
The winner of this tie will face either Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy or Namibia’s African Stars, who hold a 1-0 advantage ahead of their return leg on Saturday.
Orlando Pirates are eager to make amends for their early exit from last season’s competition, where they were eliminated by Jwaneng on penalties in the second round.
