News: "I’m knocking on the door" - Mayo Eyes Bafana Bafana Return

Striker Khanyisa Mayo believes his improved form at CR Belouizdad warrants a recall to Bafana Bafana. After a difficult initial period in North Africa following his departure from the PSL, Mayo has found his footing and become a key player for the Algerian club.

He has featured in 17 matches across all competitions, playing a significant role in Belouizdad’s attack, particularly in the CAF Champions League. During a recent Champions League match against Orlando Pirates in South Africa, where he was on the wrong side of the 2-1 scoreline, Mayo received a warm reception from the Buccaneers faithful.

Having overcome a challenging start, the 26-year-old has established himself as a regular starter, scoring three goals so far. He credits his teammates and the coaching staff for helping him adapt to the league, the atmosphere, and the team’s style of play.

“Definitely, it took me months to settle in, but I have managed to find my feet because of the coach, technical staff and the players, helping me to adapt in the league, the atmosphere, the style of play in the team,” he said.

“For me, it’s been a journey I have enjoyed, as a footballer you have to live for moments like this, to enjoy it each and every time you get an opportunity [to play]. So, I think with the Bafana … I have been putting myself out there, raising my hand, knocking on the door.

“I have been asking questions to get back into the team, we will see what happens because it’s a long journey, the season is still long but God willing, things will happen according to my plan”, Mayo concluded.
