Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, has made history by becoming the only African-based player nominated for the prestigious CAF Player of the Year award.
He’s up against a stellar lineup, including Simon Adingra, Achraf Hakimi, Ademola Lookman, and Serhou Guirassy. The winner will be announced on December 16th in Morocco.
Williams’ exceptional performances for both Sundowns and Bafana Bafana have earned him global recognition. He was instrumental in Sundowns’ African Football League and Betway Premiership triumphs, earning him the PSL Footballer of the Year award. His heroics continued at the Africa Cup of Nations, where he led Bafana Bafana to a bronze medal finish and was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
His outstanding year has also seen him nominated for the Yachine Trophy for the world’s best goalkeeper and the FIFA FIFPro World XI, alongside football giants like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
As the CAF awards ceremony approaches, all eyes are on Williams to see if he can add another accolade to his already impressive trophy cabinet.
