Golden Arrows have a mammoth task on their hands to complete the Tshwane double as they look to overcome significant odds to knock out Mamelodi Sundowns. Lehlohonolo Seema’s side beat SuperSport United 4-3 on penalties and followed that up with a commendable 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United in the KZN derby. Sundowns have also had a perfect start to the campaign, beating Kaizer Chiefs on penalties in the quarter-finals, while the Brazilians then went on to oust AmaZulu 1-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Downs have beaten arguably two of their closest rivals for the season already, so I fancy them to claim bragging rights in the first leg.
Athlone Stadium will host an entertaining tie between Cape Town City and Swallows in the first leg of their semi-final tie this Sunday. Both sides know how to make this an exciting tie to look forward to so fireworks can definitely be expected. Cape Town City did superbly well to beat AmaZulu 2-1 at Moses Mabhida Stadium, while Swallows claimed a victory just as impressive, knocking Orlando Pirates out of the MTN8 at their own backyard. The Dube Birds scored a last-gasp winner in their DStv Premiership opener to get the better of Royal AM, while City drew to SuperSport United. My money is on a stalemate in the first leg here.
