Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen says the club is determined to make a strong start to their MTN8 campaign, insisting their ultimate objective is to lift the trophy as they prepare to face Golden Arrows in the quarter-finals this weekend.
Speaking to the media at the MTN8 launch, the goalkeeper stressed the importance of focusing on the task at hand while keeping their eyes on the bigger picture.
“The main goal for us is to go all the way. The most important game is the first game,” Petersen said.
The Glamour Boys face a tricky opening assignment against Golden Arrows, who completed a league double over Chiefs during the previous Betway Premiership campaign. However, Petersen believes last season’s results will have little bearing on this weekend’s encounter.
“It’s never an easy game against Arrows. The past is in the past,” he said.
“They have new coaches and new players, and it’s a new season. It’s important to focus on us.”

Petersen also acknowledged the challenge posed by Abafana Bes’thende, describing them as a well-organised side that will test Chiefs in the opening knockout fixture.
“They are structured and very intact. They know what they want to do, so for us we are going to have our work cut out for us.”
Chiefs head into the new campaign with renewed optimism after strengthening their squad during the transfer window, with the recent signing of winger Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC among the club’s headline additions. Petersen believes the new arrivals have significantly improved the squad as Amakhosi look to challenge for silverware this season.
“The signings we have made are phenomenal players,” he added.
The captain also urged his teammates to let their performances do the talking as Chiefs look to begin the season on a positive note.
“It’s important for us to stick to our guns and leave the talking for the field and make sure we do our best when it comes to matchday.”
