MS: Sundowns sign Kegan Johannes

Highly-rated defender Kegan Johannes is closing in on a move to Mamelodi Sundowns. The 23-year-old former South Africa U23 captain impressed with his versatility at SuperSport United, playing both center-back and right-back in over 65 appearances since 2021. He even drew attention from the national team (Bafana Bafana).

Multi-year Contract

They offered him a four-year contract, but an injury sidelined him towards the end of last season. He’s currently recovering but is expected to be ready soon.

Club Statement

The club confirmed Johannes as their latest signing from cross-town rivals SuperSport United. A statement released on X read,

“Masandawana, defender Kegan Johannes has joined Bafana Ba Style on a multi-year deal!”

Humble Beginnings

He joined SuperSport on a free transfer three years ago and quickly became a regular. With the medical done and clubs in agreement, Johannes just needs to finalize personal terms to complete the move.

Sundowns’ Signigns

Their first was Kobamelo Kodisang, lured from Portugal. To secure Johannes, Sundowns might pay a transfer fee and send goalkeeper Ricardo Goss and right-back Nyiko Mobbie to SuperSport in exchange.
