Ben Motshwari welcomed the opportunity to return to competitive action but admitted Orlando Pirates were not at their best in the 0-0 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 29-year-old midfielder was named Man of the Match for his performance on Tuesday night.
Motshwari was the first South African player reported to have contracted Covid-19.
He underwent self-isolation before making his way back to training, and played the full 90 minutes against the Brazilians.
It was Bucs’ first game back in over four months, while Sundowns beat Bidvest Wits 3-2 in their Nedbank Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, Motshwari revealed his delight to be back on the field of play, while insisting Pirates can do better.
He was reported by KickOff as saying: “First of all I just want to thank the Almighty, it was a difficult one today. We have not played in five months and they already had glimpses of playing against Bidvest Wits.”
Motshwari added: “So for us it was a bit of a challenge, especially in the first-half trying to get that momentum going. But I think in the second-half, we tried to change our formation and started to get the ball rolling.
“We created so many chances and I think we should have scored one tonight but we’ll take a draw even though we’re not satisfied.”
