AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa says despite their early season struggles in the DStv Premiership they will still be a big threat to Mamelodi Sundowns’ league title ambitions.
Last season Usuthu finished second on the table behind Sundowns but after a slow start to the 2021/22 season with only one win in five games they are seventh on the league table with six points while the Brazilians are top with 13 points.
“I am disappointed with the start we’ve had because we finished in second place last season. We hit an obstacle too early,” Mothwa told The Sowetan.
“We are used to winning and we are not a one-season wonder team. We still have 25 games and we can still catch up with them. We are not panicking, we are picking up nicely.
“Sundowns will slip up, and we will be there to capitalise when it happens,” he added.
On Saturday at Kings Park Stadium, Usuthu face Kaizer Chiefs in a league clash and Mothwa feels both teams are in the same boat when it comes to their early season struggles.
“Chiefs want a win and the same applies to us. They are wounded and struggling now. We will do the talking on the field of play. We will show you the character of AmaZulu,” Mothwa said.
