Mamelodi Sundowns will have to make do without the services of Thapelo Morena for the rest of the season as he recovers from a fractured ankle.
The Masandawana attacker suffered a serious ankle injury in the 1-0 win over SuperSport United on Saturday and has subsequently gone under the knife to help repair the bone and ligament damage.
The club have since confirmed that the injury was indeed a fractured ankle, which means he will most likely be sidelined until the end of the season.
Sundowns confirmed via their Twitter account on Sunday: “He has sustained a fracture as well as ligament damage on his right ankle. He is due for an operation today.”
Speaking to the press after the game, coach Pitso Mosimane said: “It’s a difficult one with Thapelo. We need him for the league and Champions League. He is an important player for us.”
The Brazilians’ will take on Chippa United in their next Absa Premiership clash on Saturday, 15 February.
