Mngqithi: Three points is three points

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi said his side are preparing for Saturday’s DStv Premiership blockbuster clash with Orlando Pirates like every other match.

Mngqithi summed up it in a philosophical and straightforward way, saying the value of three points is the same regardless of which team one plays, which is something the technical stuff at Downs have been trying to instil in the players in order to accumulate as many points as possible.
The Brazilians finished with 67 points last season and lost just once – to Kaizer Chiefs – but this season their aim is to finish with an even-higher points tally and go unbeaten the whole season a la ‘Invincibles’.
They are currently top of the DStv Premiership and two points ahead of Pirates ahead of what should be a pulsating Gauteng derby.
“What we’ve emphasised as a technical team and thanks to all the coaches that I work with and everyone that’s around,” Mngqithi told the club’s media department.
“We’ve emphasised on taking care of the process, and the process is the number of points we want to achieve in each cycle. Whoever happens to become an opponent in that space, we focus on that so that we achieve our desired targets and get the points we’re looking for.
“Pirates is that team that must give us that points that can help us to achieve our ultimate target. So the issue of anxiety we have tried to clear that by focusing more on the process and making sure that everybody understands three points is the same, be it Pirates, Baroka or TS Galaxy, whoever.”
