Manqoba Mngqithi says Lyle Lakay can develop his game even more after scoring a vital goal for Mamelodi Sundowns in their 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch.
The former Cape Town City left-back netted a 59th minute equaliser at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday after Junior Mendieta’s 43rd minute penalty.
Lakay’s strike ensured that the Brazilians remained unbeaten this season, heading into Wednesday’s DStv Premiership encounter with Royal AM.
Reflecting on the performance, Mngqithi said in the Citizen: “Lyle played very well offensively…there are some areas that he still needs to work on defensively.
“But I will not blame him because I think the wind was also a factor. There were many balls that we allowed to drop in front of the opposition which created problems for us.
“But overall we are very happy with Lyle and the goal he scored made a big difference for us.”
Mngqithi also welcomed the return to the side of versatile midfielder Rivaldo Coetzee.
“Riva gave a good account of himself, we know what he can offer. We wanted him to control the tempo of the game and assist us in our build-ups as well, which I think he did well,” added the co-coach.
