Mamelodi Sundowns have officially secured the services of Stellenbosch striker Iqraam Rayners.
Coach Manqoba Mngqithi confirmed the news at the post-match press conference following their MTN8 victory over Polokwane City.
The 28-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move to the reigning champions, and the club has now moved swiftly to acquire his signature ahead of interest from North African giants Esperance Sportive de Tunis and USM Alger. Mngqithi revealed,
As for Iqraam, we are happy to have him, he will add something to the club, I’m looking at him more for the Champions League than for the PSL,”
“In as much as he will help us in the PSL, I think in the Champions League he will really give us more.”
Rayners is seen as a key player for their CAF Champions League campaign, emphasizing his ability to add a new dimension to the team’s attacking options.
While he’s expected to contribute to the PSL title defense, the coach believes the striker’s impact will be particularly felt on the continental stage.
