Mamelodi Sundowns have been looking like their former selves, which has seen them net 14 goals in their last four matches.
Sundowns’ dominant 8-0 aggregate victory over Mbabane Swallows in both legs of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round, coupled with a 2-0 win over SuperSport United and a 4-1 rout of Marumo Gallants, have showcased their attacking potency.
This goal-scoring spree marks a significant turnaround from their previous three matches, where they struggled to find the net. Concerns arose about Mngqithi’s coaching after their elimination from the MTN8 by Stellenbosch. However, these recent performances have dispelled those doubts.
More recently, the talk around Sundowns has been centered around the omission of the highly-rated Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau. The Bafana Bafana duo have been left out of the Masandawana matchday squad in the past four matches across all competitions.
Mngqithi explained that Sundowns currently has a strong squad with several players making significant contributions to the team.
“I think Sundowns has got a lot of big players, and all big players are playing, and I’m happy with what they’ve offered thus far,” said Mngqithi.
When asked if Mudau and Mokoena will be available for selection in this coming Saturday’s mouth-watering clash against Kaizer Chiefs, the former Golden Arrows mentor said, “They are always part of the selection process.
“There’s no match where they were not part of the selection process. We just have to make those decisions sometimes. But they are there, they are competing and they are fit. So anything can happen.”
Sundowns will face Amakhosi at FNB Stadium in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, 28 September 2024. Kickoff is 15h00.
