Mike Makaab says Vusumuzi Vilakazi has an important job to do at AmaZulu in his new role as DStv Diski Challenge coach.
The former Golden Arrows head coach landed at Usuthu following his recent departure from Richards Bay.
Vilakazi helped secure the Natal Rich Boyd’ top-flight status and had recently signed a two-year extension to his deal but a change in ownership at the club led to his exit.
According to the player’s agent, Vilakazi had a number of senior offers but decided to be a part of developing the next generation of first team players at AmaZulu.
Makaab told FARPost: “I can tell you that Vilakazi had a lot of interest from various teams in different positions [in the Betway Premiership].
“We felt that the position to take over as the head coach of the AmaZulu DStv Diski Challenge team is more suitable for him.
“He is tasked with the role of helping development players transition to the senior team because there’s quite a big difference between playing for the DDC team and the first team.”
Vilakazi is no stranger to the Diski Challenge, winning the title during his time in charge of the Golden Arrows reserve team.
