Miguel Cardoso hail Mamelodi Sundowns mentality after victory against AmaZulu

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso was pleased with the way his team improved in the second half of their 2-0 Betway Premiership win over AmaZulu.

Goals from Peter Shalulile (51) and Arthur Sales (87) secured the win for the Brazilians, to leave the club 18 points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates, who were held to a 0-0 draw with Stellenbosch in their league tie.

AmaZulu ended the evening in seventh place on the standings with 30 points – 28 points adrift of Sundowns.

Reflecting on the game, Cardoso explained that his side were playing too narrow in the first half.

He told SuperSport: “In the first half, the game was very narrow, with a little bit of mental freshness. Eventually, we were not using the width of the pitch in the right way.

“We had to do something to bring extra energy. Well, sometimes things work out well, sometimes they don’t, but today they did. I think it’s deserved that we win the match, and in the second half, we bought another energy.

“Then it was to cope with the moments. We understood that we needed to cope with the players that were more tired in order to keep the team up and alive, so congratulations to the boys.”

Sundowns are next in action against Orlando Pirates this weekend.
