Ernst Middendorp praised chairman Farook Kadodia for his impact in Maritzburg United’s 1-0 victory over Royal AM on Wednesday.
Friday Samu netted the only goal of the DStv Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium on 22 minutes to hand the Team of Choice a massive three points in their battle for top-flight survival.
The result lifted Middendorp’s side three clear of the relegation places and onto 27 points in 12th place with three league games remaining.
The head coach said on IOL: “The chairman had a number of meetings with the players and staff and just reminded everyone how important it is to not allow the relegation battle to drag on until the last day. We needed to win this game in particular because we’re playing two away games after this.
“We are aware of what we need to do if we want to survive, we know how important it is to band together and fight for each other.”
Middendorp added: “Teams around us received surprising results, but you can’t predict these things and they didn’t have any impact on us, we just received amazing support behind the scenes and that helped us tonight.”
