Mhango wonderstrike against Morocco nominated for CAF Goal of the Year award

AmaZulu striker Gabadinho Mhango has made the three-man shortlist for the the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Goal of the Year Award.

Mhango, who recently swapped the colours of Orlando Pirates for AmaZulu, is in the running for his wonderstrike for Malawi against Morocco in the group stages of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in which he picked up the ball from 40 yards out before unleashing a scorcher into the top right-hand corner.
We would like to inform you that as part of the voting process of the CAF Awards 2022, Mr Hellings ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango has been shortlisted among the players competing for the Goal of the Year,” the letter from CAF addressed to the Football Association of Malawi read.
“In consequence, CAF is extending him a formal invitation to attend the ceremony scheduled for the 21st of July in Rabat (Morocco). Kindly assist us in confirming his presence and giving us his desired travel itinerary to/from Morocco as well as providing us with his passport for the necessary travel arrangements.”
It is not yet clear which two other players Mhango will be competing against for the award.
