Mduduzi Shabalala’s double rescues a point for Kaizer Chiefs against Magesi

Mduduzi Shabalala netted a 2nd half-double to rescue Kaizer Chiefs who fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Betway Premiership newcomers Magesi.

Magesi stunned their more illustrious visitors when they took the lead as early as the sixth minute when Wonderboy Makhubu steered a downward header into the bottom right corner of the net from six yards out.

Amakhosi should have equalised just minutes later but goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze denied Shabalala on two occasions in quick succession.

Magesi would be solid throughout the first half to go in at the halftime break with their 1-0 lead still intact.

Bradley Cross went close to the equaliser on the hour mark but the defender saw his header go inches wide of the target.

The home team would then make it 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining when Edmore Chirambadare found the back of the net from a set-piece.

Chiefs though were not yet buried and Shabalala pulled one back in the 77th minute before levelling the scores just a minute later.

The Soweto giants had a spring in their step in the latter stages of the contest but Magesi held firm to guarantee a  point.

Amakhosi sit eighth in the league standings on seven points after the draw while Magesi have made a steady start in the top-flight with six points from six matches.
