Matthews: We want to keep what we have

SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews

SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews says the DStv club won’t be active in the transfer market this off-season.

Matsatsantsa are back in training ahead of the start of their 2021/22 league campaign.

When asked about his purchase plan, the pragmatic boss told Kick Off, he was intent on remaining close to his core value of developing players while retaining key players, namely Bongani Khumalo, Siyabonga Nhlapo and Onismor Bhasera.

Matthews, who’s side ended fifth under head coach Kaitano Tembo last season, added it was not a prudent time to be splashing out on players.

He said: “By all means, we want to try keep what we have and what we know, and the experience that has delivered for us consistently and added value to the young squad. So, we hope we can agree terms to keep them.”

Matthews added: “We won’t be very active in this window. We have many talented young players to work with and, with Covid-19, it’s a difficult time for all clubs and budgets.”
